Li Hong is a consultant
in information technology in Singapore. Her specialty is accounting systems
on Oracle. She prefers to work as an independent consultant because it gives
her more freedom to pursue her many outside interests, including travel, other
cultures, and particularly French language and culture.
Before arriving at La Ferme, Li Hong had reached the intermediate level at The Alliance Française in Singapore. She had a good basic knowledge of French, but had picked up some bad habits in pronunciation, and needed more work on grammar and syntax. Her listening comprehension was fairly good, considering her limited access to the spoken word in Singapore.
The following is a free translation of what she wrote in our visitors' book in almost perfect French just before she left La Ferme:
A thousand thanks for your hospitality during my stay at La Ferme. Although I have been in France for six weeks, it was during these last two weeks that I learned the most about the culture and the way of life of the French. And also, I have had the chance to speak and to listen in French (although it has been hard). Thank you very much for helping me to correct (my mistakes in French).
Thanks to her own hard work and to the immersion environment of La Ferme, Li Hong was able to reach the goals she had set for her two-week course and to overcome her principal weaknesses in French.
